Future Friday: Navigating the Busiest of Schedules with Smart Glasses

Calendar-keeping made easy with smart glasses

Remember when appointments were kept using pen and paper? Many in today’s workforce don’t. Since the late 80s, our ability to keep schedules through digital means has rapidly improved.

More than ever, apps like Microsoft Outlook ensure we never miss appointments in both our professional and personal lives. Custom notifications ensure we’re constantly in the loop - improving our ability to perform at optimal levels of efficiency throughout the day.

At least, they make sure we’re never (willingly) late to a meeting. Granted, our ability to stay plugged-in is limited to the capabilities of the devices we use to interact with our digital schedules.

Smarter time management

Augmented reality (AR) is set to push the boundaries of the limitations set by smart phones, laptops and PCs. Specifically, smart glasses will one day make it easier than ever to monitor and make changes to your personal calendar.

Indeed, smart watches provide another way to receive notifications and updates in an unobtrusive way. However, smart glasses could soon eliminate the need to refer to a screen on your wrist.

Perfect personal planning?

Already, smart glasses like the Vuzix Blade can display notifications in the corner of one’s eye. The software behind this innovation holds massive potential.

Think of everything that could be broadcast into a smart glasses display. Instead of referring to your phone or laptop for reminders, you could utter “Display next appointment” and all relevant information would be presented before your eyes - literally.

This would allow users to save a great deal of time monitoring and keeping their calendars. There’d be no need to take your eyes off the sidewalk while walking down a busy metropolitan street. Additionally, life behind a desk would be infinitely easier. There’d be no need to click away from a current task to view your calendar or investigate a notification.

Multi-taskers, schedule keepers and busybodies rejoice: smart glasses hold a great deal of potential in the time management and personal planning arenas.

A Disclaimer Note from the Author: On Fridays we often let our imagination run wild at Vuzix. With our ‘Future Friday’ segment, we explore the endless possibilities offered by smart glasses. We encourage you to provide your feedback as your input will help us make these dreams a reality.
