Title: Senior Software Engineer Android App
Location: West Henrietta, NY

Position Summary for Senior Software Engineer

The candidate must be an energetic self-starter with a passionate interest in engineering and design for state of the art near eye imaging hardware. This includes eyeglass, monocular and binocular systems that integrate COTS micro displays with optics, illumination, electronic and software components. The individual must demonstrate effective interaction with a multidisciplinary team and deliver custom designs and solutions for a variety of eyewear needs in a rapid development and product commercialization environment. Candidate should have unique talents and experience to further Vuzix near-eye display system designs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test mobile application solutions for Android mobile devices
  • Participate in all phases of R&D and development projects, to include: ideation, design, programming, unit testing, defect resolution, code review, and deployment activities
  • Develop and ensure proper procedures and methods are used by other members of the design team by providing a value-add quality review
  • Provide guidance, direction, and mentorship for less experienced software engineers with an emphasis on performance, design optimization, re-use, and furthering mobile best practices
  • Communicate with the internal customers, suppliers, and internal management as the technical expert on projects
  • Ensure successful transition of products/projects to full scale production


Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience developing and testing robust solutions using Android Open Source Project (AOSP)
  • Experience configuring the Android Operating System, kernel, developing device drivers, and building applications for the Android platform
  • Experience using Android SDK, Android NDK, and Android Studio
  • Proficiency in Java and Java for Android, C/C++ a plus
  • Object-oriented programming skills demonstrated through relevant industry experience
  • Proven design skills in a product development environment. Full product lifecycle experience is required.
  • Experience handling software updates, patches, and bug fixes within the Android ecosystem
  • Experience with networking concepts
  • Experience with Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

Title: Regulatory Compliance Engineer
Location: West Henrietta, NY

Position Summary for Regulatory Compliance Engineer

This candidate should be a motivated and detail-oriented compliance engineer knowledgeable in the areas of international and domestic regulatory standards for electronic, mobile, and battery devices. This person should demonstrate an understanding of regulatory language, applying regulations to engineering designs, planning and managing regulatory testing, debugging issues, and maintaining regulatory documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define and drive Vuzix’ products compliance strategies
  • Use knowledge of regulatory standards to guide early product designs that ultimately result in successful compliance testing
  • Establish best-practices for a solid foundation in compliant product designs. Guide and mentor engineering team to prevent compliance issues
  • Research applicable regulatory standards and codes, review design data, and identify and resolve potential issues
  • Manage formal compliance testing performed at external agencies and third-party test facilities; coordinate testing schedules to align with project timelines
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to identify and fix test-failure points
  • Work with the manufacturing group to ensure compliance requirements are met throughout the production process
  • Organize and attend factory inspections performed by certifying agencies, as needed
  • Organize and maintain documentation for compliance, to include: certifications, test reports, RoHS information
  • Manage compliance standards throughout the product lifecycle to ensure products remain compliant as standards change

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Title: Opto-mechanical Engineer

Position Summary for Opto-mechanical Engineer

The candidate must be an energetic, self-starter to perform mechanical systems engineering for state of the art near eye imaging systems. This includes monocular and binocular systems that integrate micro displays with optics, illumination, and electronic components. The individual must demonstrate effective interaction with a multidisciplinary team and deliver custom designs and solutions for a variety of eyewear needs. Projects will include designs for deliverable product, Research and Development, Tooling and Fixturing support for production, as well as hands on model building and rapid prototyping.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining drawings and supporting documentation for optical components.
  • Considering manufacturability in design, sourcing, inspection, and assembly of optical systems and subsystems.
  • Consider alignment, fixturing and tolerancing of optical subassemblies and systems.
  • Analyze product specifications and performance requirements to determine design approach and form factor for optical subassemblies and overall product design.
  • Provide Engineering support including troubleshooting to manufacturing and production groups - from prototypes and proof of concepts to low volume (thousands) to higher volumes (100K+).
  • Design, assemble, and test prototypes and mock-ups using 3D printer and other rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Design and implement production tooling and fixtures as well as perform some manufacturing engineering to transition new designs to Production and provide ongoing production support.
  • Act as primary interface between Optical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing.

Experience Required

  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Position Summary for Opto-manufacturing Engineer

The candidate must be an energetic, self-starter to perform Opto-manufacturing engineering for state of the art near eye imaging systems. Their primary focus will be the implementation and documentation of existing and new processes. The candidate will need to work within a multi-disciplinary environment to help test, manufacture, align, assemble, and document optical systems and components.

  • Implement, document, and develop processes for lean manufacturing of optical components and systems.
  • Evaluate and suggest recommendations on the manufacturing quality control processes, both incoming and in-situ.
  • Apply knowledge of product design to streamline manufacturing/inspection processes.
  • Solicit observations from operators and feed that information back into processes to improve safety, yields, and overall quality.

Experience in waveguided optical systems, projection systems, diffractive elements, holography, optical design, both imaging and illumination, metrology, manufacturing, QC, and project management are all desired skills. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and implement the architecture of high technology products within a concurrent engineering environment.
  • Design compact, high efficiency projection systems that meet specific performance criteria.
  • Perform full modeling and tolerance analysis of imaging and illumination systems.
  • Evaluate designs for cost, manufacturability and reliability.
  • Oversee manufacture, assembly, and alignment of complex optical systems.
  • Characterize and test bare microdisplays, projector systems, and complete near-eye systems.
  • Experience with geometric optics, LED illuminators, backlights, conventional microdisplays, collimators and concentrators, holographic systems, optical interference coatings, injection molding, lens design, and high precision optics design, fabrication and assembly.
  • Research and understand human factors and implement intelligent design choices for head mounted display systems.
  • Generate complete system documentation and provides input to technical proposals in order to effectively communicate the design and/or approach to internal and external customers.
  • Validate system performance in order to prove the technical design through analysis, simulation, and laboratory testing.
  • Provide senior optical engineering expertise. Responsible for achievement of schedule, financial and technical performance objectives.
  • Ensure proper procedures and methods are used by other members of the design team by providing a value added quality review.
  • Independently develop and implement corrective action to product and procedural problems.
